Digital Scale Maintenance: Cleaning, Storage and Battery Care
Simple maintenance that keeps a digital scale accurate: cleaning without damaging the load cell, storage that avoids drift, and battery habits that prevent leaks.

Clean the platform, protect the load cell
The platform is the part that touches food and spills; the load cell underneath is the part that must stay dry. Remove the tray or platform where the model allows it and wash it separately. Wipe the body with a damp cloth rather than running it under a tap unless the model is designed for washdown.
Avoid solvents and abrasive pads
Harsh solvents can cloud a display window and remove printed markings. Abrasive pads scratch stainless surfaces and can wear through a coating. Mild detergent and a soft cloth handle most kitchen spills.
Store flat and away from heat
Store the scale flat, away from ovens and direct sun. Extreme heat can affect the electronics and warp a plastic housing. If the scale stays on a counter, keep it out of the splash zone of the sink.
Battery habits
Remove cells from a scale that will sit unused for months; leaking cells damage the contacts. When replacing them, use the type stated for the model and replace the pair together. A USB-charging model still needs its connector kept dry and clean.
Check accuracy after cleaning
After a deep clean or a move, weigh a known reference and confirm the reading returns to zero. If the reading drifts, recalibrate using the model's procedure. A scale that fails after recalibration should be taken out of service.
Ask for care instructions
ZmoTek can supply the cleaning and calibration notes for each model. Tell us which platform you are using and we will send the right procedure.
