Sampling a Digital Scale: What to Check Before You Order
A sample checklist for importers: accuracy against a known weight, unit switching, button response, display readability, power and packaging fit.
Why a sample is not a formality
A spec sheet describes the platform; a sample shows the unit you will actually ship. Standard-platform samples can be ready in as little as 48 hours at the cooperating factories, which makes a structured sample review practical before any tooling commitment.
Check accuracy against a known load
Weigh a calibrated reference at the range band your buyers use — for a jewelry model that means the lowest range where 0.01 g matters, and for a kitchen model the mid and top of its ladder. Repeat the same load three times and note drift. Also check the tare function at each step.
Exercise the unit set and controls
Cycle through every mode on the spec sheet, not just the two you expect to use. A unit that fails to switch is a support ticket in every market. Then press every button — power, tare, mode, hold — and confirm the labels match your market's language expectations.
Read the display like a customer
View the display at the angle a shopper would, under store lighting, and check contrast. Note whether the backlight is always-on or timed. For coffee scales with a detachable head, confirm the head reads at the distance it will be used.
Open the box and the carton
The packaging is part of the product. Confirm the color box fits the unit with its accessory tray, that the master carton count matches the spec sheet, and that the carton dimensions you were quoted are the dimensions you received. These numbers feed directly into freight.
