CE, UKCA, FCC and RoHS: Certification Basics for Scale Importers

What each certification covers, which markets ask for it, and what documentation to request with a scale shipment.

Four compliance topics, four scopes

Scale buyers meet four compliance topics most often: CE for the European Economic Area, UKCA for Great Britain, FCC authorization for the United States, and RoHS for restricted hazardous substances. Each answers a different question, and a model can carry some without the others. Always ask for the exact certificate set for your destination market.

CE and UKCA: two markets, similar intent

CE marks products placed on the EU market; UKCA covers Great Britain. They address safety and electromagnetic compatibility for electronic equipment, and both require a technical file. Models in the ZmoTek catalog carry CE and UKCA certification from the cooperating factories — confirm the certificates name the exact model, not just the product family.

FCC: the US radio-frequency requirement

FCC authorization concerns electromagnetic emissions for equipment sold in the United States. A scale with wireless features needs a different review than a simple battery-powered platform. If your market is North America, ask which FCC scope the authorization covers.

RoHS: materials, not safety

RoHS restricts lead, mercury, cadmium and other substances in electrical and electronic equipment. It is a materials declaration rather than a safety mark, and it travels with the technical file rather than the product label in most cases. Pair it with the safety certificates, not instead of them.

What to request with the shipment

Ask for the certificate set by model, the test report reference, and confirmation that the paperwork ships with the booking. ZmoTek coordinates certification documents from the cooperating factories with the shipping documents so destination-market checks stay predictable. Certification is a regulated area — confirm requirements with your own compliance adviser before ordering.
